In some cases, you may need to sign into the system using local/system credentials instead of using the Empower Authentication feature.

At times, you may need to sign in using the local password that the lab manager set up during system installation. This option is available on the main Empower Authentication sign-in page whenever the feature is enabled.

Use local password sign-in under the following circumstances:

  • The system is unable to communicate with Empower due to network issues or similar reasons.
  • As a user with the appropriate authority, you intend to disable the Empower Authentication feature.
  • As a user with the appropriate authority, you intend to change the local system password.
  1. From the Alliance iS HPLC system lock screen, swipe up.
If the system is unable to communicate with Empower, a dialog appears that states Unable to connect to Empower. You can tap TRY AGAIN, CANCEL, or Sign in with local system password.
  2. Tap Sign in with local system password.
A caution dialog box appears informing the user that by bypassing the Empower ID login process, system activity will be limited.
  3. Tap SIGN IN.

    The password input screen appears.

Note: When signing into the system with the local password, the screen will be surrounded by a red border.
  4. Type the local system password and tap DONE.
  5. The System Access Control screen appears. Tap NEXT.
  6. Tap Require System Password to change the Require System Password function (optional).
  7. Tap Require Empower Authentication to disable the Empower Authentication feature (optional), and then tap NEXT.
  8. Tap NEXT. The Empower Authentication screen appears and displays a message stating This action disables Empower authentication on this system. If disabled, actions on this system will not be auditable. This action will be canceled in :.
A 30-second countdown timer appears with the option to disable Empower authentication or cancel.
  9. The Empower Authentication dialog appears. Tap DISABLE or CANCEL.
Caution: When the Empower Authentication feature is disabled, actions on this system are not considered auditable and will be attributed to "Unknown" in the system log. No audit trail information is generated when the Empower Authentication feature is disabled.

See Alliance iS HPLC system audit trail and Audit trail information in Empower for more information on the Alliance iS HPLC system audit trail.
