Signing in and out with the Empower Authentication feature enabled (lab manager)
Topic LCI-USG-0238, Last Updated 11/21/2025

Users with lab manager access to the system (as determined by Empower ID) have access to additional functions within the touchscreen interface.

With the Empower Authentication feature enabled, lab managers are able to access system functions not available to service and analyst users through the system touchscreen.

Notes:
  • If a user who has been assigned both service and lab manager access privileges to the system signs in, they will have access to both service- and lab manager-specific functions. Waters recommends assigning system users to one user type only.
  • When the Empower Authentication feature is enabled and the system displays Incorrect Password upon sign in, Waters recommends that the user check to see if they have access to any Empower projects on the workstation connected to the Alliance iS HPLC system.
  • See the "Creating user accounts" topic in the Empower online Information System for guidance on setting user credentials.

To access lab manager-restricted functions:

  1. Sign into the system with a lab manager-level Empower ID. See Signing in and out with the Empower Authentication feature enabled.
  2. From the Home screen, tap SYSTEM > ADMINISTRATION.

Functions available to the lab manager (not available to analyst users):

    • Service commands (also available to service users)
    • Changing the dwell volume (also available to service users)
    • Resetting the injection count (also available to service users)
    • Resetting the volume pumped (also available to service users)
    • Administrative functions
      • Pre-run checks
      • Run-time checks
      • System access control
      • Setup workflow
      • Changing qualification expiration date (also available to service users)
      • Changing performance maintenance expiration date (also available to service users)
    • Disabling leak sensors (also available to service users)
    • Changing date and time format
    • Autozero offsets (TUV detector only) (also available to service users)
  3. To sign out from the system, tap the user icon at the top of the screen and then tap SIGN OUT.
Note: System users are signed out automatically if the system is inactive for a preset amount of time.
