Signing in to the system as a service user
Topic LCI-USG-0283, Last Updated 11/21/2025

Alliance iS HPLC system users with service privileges can sign in to the system to see service-only workflows.

Waters service personnel can sign into the system with their Empower ID. See Signing in and out with the Empower Authentication feature enabled. Waters service personnel can access service workflows not visible to standard users or lab managers.

Notes:
  • When signed in to the system, Waters service personnel cannot access lab manager-only features and workflows. See Signing in and out with the Empower Authentication feature enabled (lab manager). Only service users can access workflows for pump head maintenance and mercury lamp calibration (PDA detector only).
  • If a user who has been assigned both service and lab manager access privileges to the system signs in, they will have access to both service- and lab manager-specific functions. Waters recommends assigning system users to one user type only.
  • System users are signed out automatically if the system is inactive for a preset amount of time. See Signing out of the system.
  • If a service user signs out of the system or is signed out automatically, and the same user attempts to sign back into the system within an hour, they will not need to re-enter their service user name, company name, or service goals.
  • When the Empower Authentication feature is enabled and the system displays Incorrect Password upon sign in, Waters recommends that the user check to see if they have access to any Empower projects on the computer connected to the Alliance iS HPLC system.
  • See the "Creating user accounts" topic in the Empower online Information System for guidance on setting user credentials.

Functions available to service users (also available to lab manager users):

  • Service commands
  • Changing the dwell volume
  • Resetting the injection count
  • Resetting the volume pumped
  • Administrative functions
    • Changing qualification expiration date
    • Changing performance maintenance expiration date
  • Disabling leak sensors
  • Autozero offsets (TUV detector only)
