Tip #201: Calculation of USP Signal-to-Noise Ratio

Tip #201: Calculation of USP Signal-to-Noise Ratio

In this tip, we will answer another question from an Empower user regarding the calculation of USP signal-to-noise ratio.

QUESTION:

Why am I not getting the USP signal-to-noise calculated when I use a blank for the noise calculation?

Please Note: For this tip, I am using generic data as the customers’ data is confidential.

STEP 1

STEP 1

The result displayed does not have the USP signal-to-noise (s/n) nor the USP Noise calculated.

STEP 2

STEP 2

The ‘Suitability’ tab in the Processing Method shows the correct selection for calculating USP signal-to-noise (s/n) and the use of a blank injection to calculate noise.

STEP 3

STEP 3

Working backward, ‘Alter Sample Set’ displays the ‘Sample Matrix’ field. The selection for the ‘Blank’ is different from the rest of the samples and that is the problem.

STEP 4

STEP 4

Modify the ‘Sample Matrix’ to be the same for the blank.

STEP 5

STEP 5

Reprocess the Sample Set and now the result for the same sample shows the values are calculated.

STEP 6

STEP 6

Search on ‘Verifying System Performance’ in the online help and you will see a Tip regarding the Sample Matrix.

It’s that easy!

Final Notes

Refer to Tip 28, Tip 29, Tip 30, and Tip 31 for more detail on calculating signal-to-noise (s/n) ratio
