Empower Tip: Review Window and the Processing Method

Empower Tip: Review Window and the Processing Method

Tip #61: Deriving a Channel in Empower (part 14)

Tip #61: Deriving a Channel in Empower (part 14)

In this tip, we will discuss another option for Deriving Channels when working with 3D MS data, called Timed Mass

You may recall that we learned about Timed Wavelength for 3D PDA data in Tip 55. Today we are going to learn about Timed Mass for 3D MS data. Timed Mass creates a channel that specifies a mass at specified starting times. This maximizes sensitivity and allows us to perform quantitation for all components regardless of the differences in mass.

STEP 1

STEP 1

We begin by bringing a channel of 3D MS data into Review.

STEP 2

STEP 2

Go to the Method Set window and Derive a Channel, selecting MS: Timed Mass.

STEP 3

STEP 3

Enter the time and mass for each segment, and select the MS Scan (3D channel) from the Function drop down list. The peak separation allows you to set a range for the desired mass as discussed in Tip 56.

STEP 4

STEP 4

We learned about using CODA in previous tips so let’s take advantage of that as well. Click the MS CODA tab, enable CODA and click OK.

STEP 5

STEP 5

Save the Derived Channel and select a Processing Method.

STEP 6

STEP 6

Return to the Main Window, apply the Method Set and the Timed Mass chromatogram is displayed.

It’s that easy!

Final Notes

This procedure can be followed using the QuickStart or Pro interface.
