In this tip for Empower Chromatography Data System (CDS), we will continue our series on Exception Focused Review, and discuss samples in a Sample Set collected with the same Instrument Method. In this tip, we will review how to ensure all samples in a Sample Set were collected with the same Instrument Method. We do this with Custom Fields. Custom Fields checks that the Instrument Method used for all injections has the same ID number. Enter the Instrument Method ID into the CConst3 field on the Components tab within the Processing Method.
Create a Peak Custom Field, data type Boolean. If the Instrument Method ID does not equal the value entered in to the CConst3 field, then it will return ‘Incorrect Instrument Method Used’ for each peak. If the ID number equals CConst3 then it will return ‘OK’ for each peak. We then summarize the results of this Custom Field in the subsequent Result Custom Field found in Step 2.
Create a Result Custom Field, data type Boolean. This Custom Field summarizes the results of the Custom Field created in Step 1. If the previous Custom Field returns ‘OK’ for each peak, then this Custom Field returns ‘OK’. If the previous Custom Field returns ‘Incorrect Method Used’, then this field will return the same for the Result.
The returned values for Custom Field #1 can be viewed in the Peaks table under the chromatogram in the Main window within Review.
The returned value for Custom Field #2 can be viewed in the Chromatogram Result table in the Results window within Review.
You can create a View Filter on the Results tab of the project window to include Custom Field #2. This shows that all samples in this Sample Set were collected with the same Instrument Method.
It’s that easy!
This can be done with either the Pro or QuickStart interface.
