In this tip, we will discuss “Other” System Policies which include things like application timeout, annotation tools, ID columns, and date display formats. NOTE: You need the Alter System Policies privilege to make any changes to System Policies.
Let’s see how it’s done!
In the Configuration Manager window – select View, System Policies. Click on the Other tab.
Let’s look at the policies in the highlighted area:
Applications Timeout After X Minutes – specify the number of minutes that a session must remain inactive before Empower becomes locked. If enabled, the user will be required to enter their password to unlock the session.
Disallow Use of Annotation Tools – if enabled, the annotation tools in Print Preview of the Report Publisher are invisible to the user.
Persist ID Columns in Project – if enabled, all ID columns will be displayed in all project tables.
Let’s now look at Date Display policies regarding Time Zone Format:
Show Region Name – displays region name in its entirety, for example, Eastern.
Show Region Abbreviation – displays region name as an abbreviation, for example, EST.
Use Long Date Format – includes the day of week, month, day in month, and year.
Show Time Zone Offset – displays time zone difference from GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
To improve database performance, you can specify that Empower retrieve many rows of data, instead of one
row, and stores the rows in memory. If you are using a Wide Area Network (WAN), you can improve performance by specifying a large number of rows to be fetched.
It’s that easy!
