Empower Tip: Browse Projects

When we look at a method in the Methods tab of Browse Project, Empower displays the current version of that particular method. There may be times when it becomes necessary to use an older version of a method. These circumstances might include:

Running a retain sample and needing the older versions of the instrument method, the processing method, and possibly the report method.

Using a new or different column which necessitates returning to the original versions of both the instrument and processing methods.

Using a new or different instrument which may require an older version of the instrument method.

Using the original version of a method as a template for all subsequent methods.

Starting on the methods tab in Browse Project we right-click on a method and select Method Properties. In this example, there are two versions of the highlighted method. Hint: Create a view filter that displays the Method Version and Method ID fields.

In the Method Properties window we see there are two lines of information and if we scroll to the right we see Method ID and Method Version numbers.

If you want to view the difference between the versions, you can highlight both rows and click Differences.

This gives you a side-by-side view of the two versions of the method so you can see what is different between them, in this example, the Touchdown%.

If we need to use the older version of the method we highlight the row for the version we want to use and click Save As Current. An Access Method question pops up.

Click yes to the Access Method question. Notice that there is now a third version of the method. Empower leaves the original version intact and creates a new version that is identical to the original one. Now, whether you are looking in the method properties, the method table of Browse Project (or both) you see that there is a new version, and it is the current version of that method. The older version of the method is ready to use.

We can see that retrieving an older version of a method, regardless of type, is very easy to do.
