Tip #208: In-Needle Auto Additions in Empower

Tip #208: In-Needle Auto Additions in Empower

In this tip, we will learn about In-Needle Auto Additions in the Sample Set Method Editor.

You can automate the mixing of aliquots from different vials in the needle of the autosampler prior to injecting the final solution. This is helpful if you need to react to materials prior to injection.

You can perform these steps in the Sample Set Method Editor (or in Run Samples)

STEP 1Create a Sample Set Method with at least one line that includes the initial vial and volume you wish to sample from. Right click in the ‘Auto Additions’ field, and select ‘Edit Auto Additions’.

STEP 2

STEP 2

The ‘In-Needle Auto Additions’ dialogue opens.

STEP 3

STEP 3

You cannot modify the first row, therefore, if you want to take a different volume from the first vial, you need to modify the Sample Set Method in the ‘Injection Volume’ field. Enter the vial numbers and volume from each that will be drawn into the needle. (the range for the volume is 0.1 – 29999.9 ul).

STEP 4

STEP 4

Enter a delay time in minutes to allow a reaction to occur (the range for this field is 0.00 – 999.99 minutes). Empower automatically calculates the total volume to be injected and is displayed.

STEP 5

STEP 5

The ‘Auto Additions’ field in the Sample Set Method now displays the vials and their respective volumes that will be mixed with the aliquot from the vial in the selected row. It also displays the delay time entered. (the syntax is vial number, injection volume; vial number, injection volume; delay time).

Final Notes

You can use either the Pro or QuickStart interface for this tip.
