Tip #402: Creating New Users

Tip #402: Creating New Users

This week we begin a series on User Management and start with creating New Users. I recommend reviewing Tip 378 & Tip 379 on System Policies regarding the creation of New Users.

Let’s see how it’s done!

Step 1

Step 1

We begin in the Configuration Manager window from File, New > User.

Step 2

Step 2

The New User dialogue box opens.

Step 3

Step 3

Enter a name that the User will need to log into Empower. The minimum number of characters is 4 and the maximum is 30. If LDAP is used, the minimum number of characters is 3. If the User is required to perform Sign-Off, then you will need to enter a Full Name as well.

Step 4

Step 4

User Location is optional. This is a Default String and needs to be created if you want to include Location.

Step 5

Step 5

A User may have more than one function in the organization and therefore, you can assign more than one User Type to that User. You can then select a Default User Type. When the User logs into Empower, it would default to whatever User Type has been selected from the Default User Type list.

Step 6

Step 6

Empower has 3 User Interfaces – Pro, QuickStart and Walk-Up. Select an interface that will be used by default when the User logs into Empower. System Default is the interface selected in the User Account System Policies tab.

Step 7

Step 7

Finally, you can select which Interfaces you will allow the User to use.

Step 8

Step 8

Once you click OK then you see the new User has been added to the Users view in Configuration Manager.

NOTE: There is a check box visible in a few screen captures labeled ‘Always Local Login’. This field is available in Local authentication mode only. If you enable this feature and then enable LDAP authentication, this user will be governed by the User Account Policies tab in System Policies and not the policies on the LDAP server.

It’s that easy!
