Why is Empower generating sub results when I work with the QDa Mass Detector?

Great question. Let’s see how it’s done!

In the first example, we see a Result generated from a PDA detector. We see there are two Sub Results for two 3D MS channels. In this case the scientist had a PDA detector and QDa mass detector connected in series.

The Method Set specifies that only the PDA channel should be processed. So why then does Empower generate two Sub Results?

The Instrument Method specifies a 3D scan from 200 – 500nm for the PDA detector.

The Instrument Method also specifies a positive scan from 100 – 440 and a negative scan from 100 - 440 for the QDa mass detector.

Looking at the Processing Method which was used to generate the Result, we see that on the MS 3D Channel tab, Enable 3D MS Channel Processing was enabled even though we are not processing the 3D MS Channels.

If we deselect Enable 3D MS Channel Processing and generate a new Result, we see only the Result from the PDA.

In the second example, we see a Result for the SIR channel collected with the QDa mass detector and a Sub Result for an MS Scan.

Once again, if we deselect Enable 3D MS Channel Processing in the Processing Method and generate a new Result, we see only the Result for the SIR Channel.
