Empower Tip: Exception Focused Review

In this week’s tip for Empower Chromatography Data System (CDS), we will continue our series on Exception Focused Review.

In this tip, we will demonstrate how to create a Custom Field which flags a Result if any component fails its specification based on a given range. This is done in two steps.

Create a Peak Custom Field, data type Boolean which is based on the outcome of the Custom Field created in Tip 287. If the component passes the Custom Field, it will return ‘NO’. If the component is missing, fails or just passes, it will return a ‘YES’.

Create a Result Custom Field, data type Boolean which is based on the outcome of the Custom Field created in Step 1. If all components pass, this Custom Field will return a ‘NO’. If one or more component fails or just passes, it will return a ‘YES’ which indicates the Result needs further investigation.

The Results window within Review will display the results of the Peak Custom Fields in the upper table and the Result Custom Fields in the middle table. You see that one peak is flagged as ‘Just Passed (High)’ and therefore, the entire Result is flagged.

Create a View Filter for the Results tab of the project window to include the outcome of the Custom Field created in Step 2. (Right click on the Result Set and select ‘View As, Results’). You see that three out of four results in the Result Set have been flagged and require further investigation.
