Empower Tip: Exception Focused Review

In this tip for Empower Chromatography Data System (CDS), we will continue our series on Exception Focused Review.

In this tip, we will deep dive into Tip 289 and use view filters to understand why results are flagged for further review.

Based on the Custom Fields we created in Tip 289, all standards and samples require further review.

Let’s address the samples first. The ‘AAC_Amount_Invalid_Result’ Custom Result Field indicates that three out of the four samples have invalid results. Highlight those rows, right click, and select ‘View As’ > ‘Peaks’.

The ‘AAA_Amount_Evaluation’ Custom Peak Field indicates that the Acetone peak ‘Just Pass (Low)’ in one sample and ‘Just Pass (High)’ in the other two samples, hence they are ‘flagged’.

Why was the remaining sample and the standards flagged indicating Requires Further Review? Throughout this series, as well as in other Empower Tips and presentations, I highlight the use of view filters and discuss how they can be used to easily identify any potential Data Integrity issues. You can create a view filter on the Results tab to view any potential issues such as:

Was the same Instrument Method used to collect all the data in the Sample Set?

Was the same Processing Method used to generate all the Results in the Result Set?

Were any of the samples Altered post run?

Were the Results signed off?

Were there any manually generated Results?

In this Result Set, you see the following issues explaining why all the Results were flagged as ‘Requires Further Review’:

All standards and samples were altered post run.

There are extra Results for one standard and for one sample.

No Results were signed off nor were any of the Channels associated with these Results locked.
