Empower Tip: Importance of Keeping your Laboratory Software Current

In this tip on the importance of staying current with the latest versions of your laboratory software, we will discuss Risk. Staying current with the latest features equips you to comply with regulatory requirements and guidance, for example, changes in the pharmacopeia. Reminder: We will cover both Empower and NuGenesis Software.

Empower: More granularity of privileges for the Administrator Role.

The Empower Administrator User Type had numerous privileges that were inherent, meaning the privileges were there but not visible in the list of available privileges. By making the inherent privileges visible you can customize the Administrator User Type to include only the privileges needed for the role.

NuGenesis: More granularity of privileges for the Analyst Role.

The roles of “edit a test” and “enter a result” were separated out from the “Test Operations” privilege in NuGenesis LMS. This allows your organization to further define who can capture the results but not edit the test in sample management.

Empower: Updates to USP calculations and addition of the Chinese pharmacopeia.

Empower 3.8.0 and beyond have updated terminology and calculations to allow you to comply with the changes to USP Chapter <621>.

Empower 3.7.0 and beyond have the calculations for those who must comply with the Chinese Pharmacopeia.

Empower: Enhancement to User privileges regarding the ability to view numerical results in Review.

If a user does not have the View Numerical and Textual Results in Review and View Quantitation Peak Fields in Review privileges, when a Result is brought into Review, the peaks table with the quantitative fields are not visible.

With Empower 3.9.0, you can bring a Result into Review and see the Peaks table with all quantitative fields even without these privileges. If you make any change, the Peaks table will disappear. If you make changes and save the manual result, the Peaks table will re-appear.

NuGenesis: Enhancement to User privileges regarding the ability to unlock documents.

With NuGenesis LMS 9.4.0, you can now use a new privilege “Unlock Document”. In My Work Documents screen, Unlock action will be visible if user has Unlock Documents privilege on the department of the document.

Empower: Defect Fixes. Fixing defects ensures that laboratory software is working properly and save times by eliminating the need for “work arounds”.

For example, CRI-601 - Previously, when you restored a backed-up project, all available project options became enabled in the restored project, including options not previously enabled in the project. Now, this issue is fixed.

NuGenesis: Performing an auto integrity check for the working documents.

A new system value controls if the automatic integrity check is executed, configured by default. This system configuration can be altered only from the database level.

When a NuGenesis LMS Smart Builder document section is closed after being edited externally a backup file is saved. Before updating the section inside LMS, for every change recorded in the section content audit trail the system checks that the value from the OLE content returned by the OLE Server is equal with the value from the saved backup file.

The result of the check is stored as a section metadata named AutoIntegrityCheck.
