Installing an (optional) external detector
Topic LCI-USG-0224, 最近更新 04/30/2025

Users or Waters field service personnel can install an optional external detector.

Use this procedure to connect an external detector for optional dual detection.

Required tools and materials

  • Switch box
  • Switch box power cable
  • I/O connector for the Alliance iS system
  • I/O connector for the external detector
  • Removable event cable
  • Ethernet cables

To install an optional external detector:

Note: When connecting an external detector, ensure that the system and the workstation or LAC/E have a minimum of ICS version 1.4.1 installed to run the Alliance iS system as well as the appropriate ICS to run the external detector. See the Alliance iS HPLC Systems Instrument Control Software 1.4.0 Installation and Configuration Guide (715009564).
  1. Using Ethernet cables, connect the switch box to the system, the external detector, and the workstation or LAC/E.

  2. Configure an appropriate I/O cable for your application and connect it to the system and the external detector. Refer to the keys on the back of the system and the detector for connection details. See I/O signal connector.
Note: The 2998 detector is shown as an example. The I/O connector for the detector may differ from the image based on the detector being installed.

  3. Connect from the AiS outlet to the detector's inlet port and connect the detector outlet port to waste.

  4. When the connections are complete, power cycle the system (see Powering-off the system and Powering-on the system), the external detector, and the workstation.
  5. When the workstation restarts, the DHCP should detect the system and the external detector.
  6. Use the chromatographic system wizard in Empower to complete setting up the system and the external detector.
    1. If the system is configured in Empower, take it offline.
    2. Create a new system including the Alliance iS HPLC (TUV) system and the secondary detector.
    3. Name the system and click Finish to bring it online.
    4. For additional information see the Empower online Information System.
