Erbium calibration

Erbium calibration
Topic LCI-USG-0217, Last Updated 11/21/2025

Erbium calibration uses the on-unit erbium filter to recalibrate the instrument. Erbium calibration is most commonly done after replacement of an optical component.

You can perform an erbium calibration for the PDA detector from the system touchscreen.

Important:
  • A prior mercury calibration is a prerequisite to performing the erbium calibration.
  • Impurities in the flow cell can affect wavelength calibration. Ensure that the flow cell is clean before you perform calibration.
  • This procedure can adversely affect spectral library matching and peak purity analyses.
  • Starting with version 2.0, users can also perform erbium calibration from the console.
  1. To perform erbium calibration from the touchscreen :
    1. Tap HEALTH > Troubleshoot.
    2. Tap the detector icon .
    3. Tap Erbium Calibration, follow the on-screen prompts, and then tap START to begin the calibration process.
The screen displays the calibration values.
    4. Tap DONE.
  2. To perform erbium calibration from the console (traditional mode) :
    1. Click Workflows, click the left-hand side of the Calibrate PDA Wavelengths (Erbium) card, and click Start. Follow the on-screen prompts and then click Calibrate to complete the calibration process. When calibration is complete, the screen displays Erbium Calibration Complete.
The screen displays the calibration values.
    2. Click Recalibrate to run the calibration process again, or click Done.
  3. To perform erbium calibration from the console (express mode) :
    1. Click Workflows, and then click the play button on the right-hand side of the Calibrate PDA Wavelengths (Erbium) card. The summary page appears showing the last selected settings (or default settings upon first system startup).
    2. Optionally, click Cancel to exit the workflow before it begins, or click Back to adjust the workflow settings. After a ten-second countdown, the workflow runs automatically. When calibration is complete, the screen displays Erbium Calibration Complete.
The screen displays the calibration values.
    3. Click Recalibrate to run the calibration process again, or click Done.
